About Merritt

​

Merritt is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 25 years of experience as a practicing therapist in New York City. She has worked in a variety of mental health settings, providing counseling  to individuals with various challenges, including: PTSD; depression/mood disorders; anxiety and panic; sleep disturbances; eating disorders; sexual abuse/assault; domestic violence; self-harm; dissociation; interpersonal (family, intimate partner, parenting) conflicts.

She is especially passionate about working with survivors of trauma, including sexual and gender based violence. In addition to private practice, Merritt has spent the past twelve years a clinician and supervisor at the Victim Services Program at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. There, she works with teen and adult survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence and provides supervision to both clinical staff and MSW interns. She co-facilitates the Volunteer Advocate Training Program, an annual 40 hour training which is certified by the New York State Department of Health. Merritt conducts workshops and trainings on best practices for working with trauma survivors. She has collaborates with various , agencies and organizations, including: the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault; the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Sex Crimes Unit; the Special Victims Unit of the NYPD; the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Program; Heal Trafficking; Title IX/Enough Is Enough. Merritt is a member of: the Downstate Coalition for Crime Victims; the Manhattan Sexual Assault Task Force; the Human Trafficking Working Group at Mount Sinai Medical Center; the Direct Service Collaborative.

Merritt completed her undergraduate degrees (BA) at Tulane University and Hunter College. She received her Master of Social Work degree from the Hunter College School of Social Work in 1997. She has held her Clinical Social Work License from the state of NY since 2005.
